High inflation peaked in 2022 and a subsequent campaign pledged to reduce consumer prices for groceries, cars and other items. Bureau of Labor Statistics consumer price index data show overall food costs rose between December 2024 and July 2025: "food at home" increased just under 1% and combined food and beverage prices rose 1.5%. Some grocery items declined—eggs about 13%, bread 3.2%, fruits and vegetables 0.7%—while several increased, including bacon 2.9%, meats/poultry/fish/eggs 2.8%, coffee 11.3%, dairy 0.5%, sugar and sweets 3.7%. Ground beef rose 11.6%, driven by drought and export limits.
