"Donald Trump should return that money immediately. He has an obligation,"
"$1,751 per family that were taxed by Donald Trump. He took hundreds of billions of dollars from working folks, from the ag community, from small businesses for this vanity play, this illegal action, and he finally was held to account. The rule of law won out."
"Your tariff taxes wreaked havoc on farmers, enrage our allies, and sent grocery store prices through the roof,"
"really cared about delivering economic relief for Illinois, he'd start with his own state government instead of chasing another stupid headline."
The Supreme Court struck down tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Democratic leaders immediately called for refunds of tariffs collected from American families. California Gov. Gavin Newsom urged immediate repayment and cited $1,751 per family in damages, accusing the tariffs of harming working people, agriculture, and small businesses. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker demanded $1,700 per family for Illinois and sent an invoice totaling more than $8.6 billion marked PAST DUE - DELINQUENT. The White House pushed back, and the Court did not specify whether or how refunds would be administered, leaving legal and logistical questions unresolved.
