Captain sues former sheriff, county over rumor about an alleged affair
"Capt. Eamonn Allen is suing former San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus for ruining his reputation with a rumor about an alleged affair. Allen, a captain in charge of law enforcement in Millbrae, filed a lawsuit on Monday (Dec. 22) against Corpus for allegedly telling another sergeant that he supposedly had an affair with associate management analyst and Corpus' former friend, Valerie Barnes. Barnes also works in the sheriff's Millbrae police bureau."
"Allen met with former Assistant Sheriff Sergio Enriquez on Oct. 9 regarding budget cuts and, without notice, was told that his position would change from captain to lieutenant, according to the suit. The change was described as a budget fix, and Allen would keep his captain's salary, the suit said. Allen suggested other solutions, but they were dismissed. The lawsuit doesn't say how demoting Allen with the same salary would solve a budget problem."
Capt. Eamonn Allen filed a lawsuit naming former San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus and San Mateo County, alleging Corpus told a sergeant he had an affair with associate management analyst Valerie Barnes. Allen's attorney says Allen was a "target of false and damaging accusations" that harmed his standing in the sheriff's office and community and strained his marriage. The suit alleges Allen was blamed for an Instagram account that attacked Corpus. Allen met with former Assistant Sheriff Sergio Enriquez about budget cuts and was told his rank would change from captain to lieutenant while keeping his captain's salary; alternative proposals were dismissed.
