Before announcing retirement, Nancy Pelosi spent election night at SF restaurant
""She is a fan of my food, but also her campaign office used to be around the corner from Hot Johnnie's," said Hot Johnnie's Smokehouse owner Jonathan Young. "So a lot of her team has grown to like my food over the years, and they thought my spot was perfect and a central location.""
""I didn't actually watch her or see if she ate anything that night," Young said. "She probably didn't want to get her jacket dirty, which was really nice. It was really a great pleasure to see her though.""
""As we go forward, my message to the city I love is this: San Francisco, know your power," Pelosi said in her video announcement. "We have made history; we have made progress. We have always led the way, and now we must continue to do so by remaining full participants in our democracy, and fighting for the Americ""
Nancy Pelosi spent election night at Hot Johnnie's Smokehouse in San Francisco's Castro District, where the restaurant hosted a private outdoor patio party for about 70 people. Owner Jonathan Young said Pelosi's campaign office used to be nearby, making the location familiar to her team, and noted the restaurant's side entrance offered discreet access. Hot Johnnie's opened in 2020 and smokes its pastrami in-house; Young recently opened Sangria & Salt in a former Mission Street restaurant space. Young said Pelosi's usual order is a pastrami sandwich on marble rye and that she seemed captivated by the screens during the event. Pelosi announced she will not run for reelection in 2026 and urged San Francisco to "know your power," citing history and progress.
