Bay Ridge Crash Renews Calls to Curb Reckless Driving
"require the installation of intelligent speed assistance devices if a driver accumulates eleven or more points on their driving record during 24 months, or receives six speed camera or red light camera tickets during a 12-month period."
"16 speed camera tickets and one red light camera ticket in 12 months,"
"Super Speeders aren't just a threat to everyone traveling around New York City; they're also a threat to themselves,"
"I'm grateful that this was the rare empty MTA bus, and no one was injured when the bus hit a building."
Around 1:30 a.m. a 26-year-old driver in a Honda Accord slammed into an MTA bus near Bay Ridge Avenue and Ridge Boulevard, causing the bus to jump the curb and crash into a building. The bus operator was not injured; the driver was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn with minor injuries and is in stable condition. Transportation Alternatives reported the driver had 16 speed camera tickets and one red light camera ticket in 12 months. The Stop Super Speeders Act, passed by the state Senate, would require intelligent speed-assistance for drivers meeting point or ticket thresholds but remains in the Assembly.
