"Alligator Alcatraz" Prisoners Say Their Living Conditions Are a Form of Torture
Briefly

Detainees at the Krome Detention Center, also referred to as "Alligator Alcatraz," report severe human rights abuses. The facility is criticized for providing inadequate and maggot-infested food, lack of bathing facilities, and flooding. Detainees highlight the denial of their religious practices. Many individuals detained have valid residency documents and express confusion regarding their detention. The conditions are described as experimental and torturous, with constant lighting and significant mosquito infestations exacerbating the situation. Critics label the operation of such facilities as a deployment of fascism and authoritarianism through law enforcement.

"They're not respecting our human rights. We're human beings; we're not dogs. We're like rats in an experiment," said a detainee of conditions at the facility.
"I don't know their motive for doing this, if it's a form of torture. A lot of us have our residency documents and we don't understand why we're here," one inmate remarked.
"Fascism and authoritarianism are deployed through law enforcement," stated author and organizer Silky Shah.
