After a freeze, Trump administration reluctantly agrees to fund EV chargers
Briefly

The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program, which funds high-speed EV chargers, is being reopened by the Trump administration after a six-month funding freeze and legal challenges. Initially created in 2021 as part of a bipartisan act, the program faced pushback from President Trump, who labeled it wasteful. After a lawsuit from states alleging violation of Congressional authority, the Department of Transportation is releasing guidance to unfund the program, albeit with fewer Biden-era restrictions. Officials are emphasizing respect for Congressional decisions despite their disagreement over funding green energy initiatives.
"While I don't agree with subsidizing green energy, we will respect Congress' will and make sure this program uses federal resources efficiently," Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy wrote in a statement.
Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said it was "encouraging" news that the administration is restarting the program and noted it's not an automatic end to the legal challenge.
