Aenlle offers different explanation for Hawaii trip
Briefly

Aenlle and Sheriff Christina Corpus are at the center of conflicting accounts about being in Maui simultaneously, which investigators say suggests an affair. The alleged affair is pivotal to nepotism claims that prompted the Board of Supervisors to vote to fire Corpus, and she is appealing that decision in a Redwood City hearing. Aenlle testified he assisted Corpus when she asked during the Hawaii trip, yet previously told an investigator he did not know she was going and barely saw her. Corpus gave inconsistent explanations about who traveled with her, and records show Aenlle was on the same flight.
Victor Aenlle, former chief of staff to San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus, offered another explanation today as to why he was in Maui at the same time as Corpus - a trip that investigators have said is evidence the two were having an affair. The allegation that they were having an affair - which they both deny - is central to the county's case that Corpus engaged in nepotism.
But last year, when Aenlle sat down for a recorded interview with retired Judge LaDoris Cordell, he said he had no idea that she was going to Hawaii. He said it was a coincidence and that he barely saw her when he was there. Aenlle told Cordell last year that he was in Hawaii on a "covert" security detail for a high-net-worth person whose identity he didn't disclose.
