Winter storm to move across U.S. but the South will see record high temps
Briefly

A winter storm is forecasted to bring significant snowfall and icy conditions from the Midwest to the Northeast, creating unsafe travel conditions. Beginning late Wednesday and lasting into Thursday, areas including Maryland will face challenges such as freezing rain and sleet. Forecasters warn that accumulations could lead to hazardous travel due to icy roads, particularly affecting northern Indiana and other locations. Meanwhile, the Southern states will experience record high temperatures, with some areas reaching the 80s, presenting a stark contrast to the winter weather up North.
"There could definitely be some icy roads, especially from northern Illinois across central to northern Indiana," Oravec says, adding that the southern and lower Michigan peninsula will also be impacted.
"Accumulating sleet can be strenuous to shovel and be treacherous to both drive and walk on. Be sure to check conditions before venturing out and drive slow," the agency says.
Temperatures are expected to be below freezing in some upper parts of the U.S., which could lead to ice accumulation in places impacted by the storm.
Record high temperatures are expected with numerous locations expected to see temperatures reaching into the 80s in some places.
