Severe storms have struck the central-eastern United States, causing at least 17 fatalities including children. The National Weather Service warns of impending severe flash flooding, with major damage reported across multiple states, notably Tennessee where 10 deaths occurred. In Kentucky, Governor Beshear reported a tragic incident involving a child swept away by floodwaters. The NWS indicated that countless areas could see extreme flooding through the weekend, urging residents to avoid affected regions. Moreover, over 100,000 people experienced power outages in Arkansas and Tennessee.
"Severe, widespread flash flooding is expected into Sunday in parts of the central-eastern region," the NWS reported, emphasizing that "lives and property are in great danger."
Kentucky's Governor Beshear highlighted, "Flooding has reached record levels in many communities," urging citizens to "avoid travel, and never drive through water."
Photos showed widespread damage from the storm across several states, with homes torn apart, toppled trees, downed power lines and overturned cars, showcasing the storms’ severity.
The National Weather Service warned that further 'severe' flash flooding is to be expected in the coming days, as storms continued to affect the central-eastern U.S.
