A federal jury has determined that CACI International, a defense contractor that provided interrogators to the U.S. Army at Abu Ghraib, is liable for abuse suffered by three detained Iraqis.
The jury awarded each of the plaintiffs $3 million in compensation and an additional $11 million in punitive damages, marking a major milestone in their long legal battle.
Despite CACI's arguments that there was no direct evidence linking its employees to the abuse, the jury ruled that the contractor was responsible for supplying those who instructed military police.
The men endured horrific conditions, including being chained to pipes, threats to family members, and forced degradation, which solidified the case against CACI in this landmark trial.
