This decision reflects the Trump administration's difficulties in moving Khalil's case to the conservative 5th Circuit Court for deportation. Khalil's lawyer lauded the ruling as an acknowledgment of the government's attempts to manipulate legal jurisdiction. Despite the decision, Khalil's wife conveyed a cautious optimism, highlighting that the struggle for his release continues as his green card remains revoked.
A United States federal court judge has ruled in favour of pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, allowing him to challenge the legality of his arrest in New Jersey rather than in Louisiana.
