A United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai had to return to San Francisco shortly after takeoff due to a pilot forgetting his passport. The incident unfolded just two hours into the flight, leading to frustration among passengers. They were offered $15 meal vouchers and compensation due to the three-hour delay before a new flight crew took over. The company later described the diversion as due to a crew-related issue, rather than confessing to the passport oversight, resulting in complaints on social media about the mishap.
Just two hours into the 13-plus-hour trip, the flight had to turn around and divert to San Francisco after it was discovered that one of the captains "did not have their passport onboard."
Yang Shuhan, a Chinese passenger aboard the flight, recalled hearing the "frustrated" flyboy announcing over the intercom that he "forgot (his) passport."
