Trump administration illegally froze billions in Harvard funds, judge rules
"difficult to conclude anything other than that [the Trump administration] used antisemitism as a smokescreen for a targeted, ideologically-motivated assault on this country's premier universities, and did so in a way that runs afoul of [federal law]."
"We will immediately move to appeal this egregious decision, and we are confident we will ultimately prevail in our efforts to hold Harvard accountable."
"to help V.A. emergency room physicians decide whether suicidal veterans should be hospitalized."
Judge Allison D. Burroughs ruled that the Trump administration froze more than $2.2 billion in Harvard research funding without considering steps Harvard had already taken to address alleged campus antisemitism. Burroughs found the administration used antisemitism as a smokescreen for an ideologically motivated assault on elite universities and that the funding freeze ran afoul of federal law. The frozen funds supported over 900 research projects at Harvard and affiliates, including work on Alzheimer’s, cancers, heart disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease, autism, and a VA program to help emergency physicians decide whether suicidal veterans should be hospitalized. The White House said it will appeal.
