Janet Yamanaka Mello was sentenced to 15 years in prison for stealing over $100 million from a youth development grant program for children of military families.
Ms. Mello formed a fraudulent business to steal Army funds by falsely claiming it provided services to military members, forging her supervisor's signature on paperwork.
Prosecutors noted that Ms. Mello abused her position as a financial manager for the grant program, using her knowledge and trust to deceive her colleagues.
