A breach in TeleMessage, an Israeli company providing modified encrypted messaging services, allowed a hacker to access sensitive data, including archived chats of high-ranking US officials. Notably, these chats were not end-to-end encrypted, undermining security claims. The hacker accessed contact information and login credentials and exploited the service used by notable firms like Coinbase. Questions around the security of the app surged after former National Security Adviser Mike Waltz revealed its use, highlighting a shift from traditional secure communication methods within government circles.
The unnamed hacker was able to access archived chats, proving that TeleMessage's message archiving service is not end-to-end encrypted.
