As part of a £1.25bn decarbonisation initiative, British Steel owner Jingye announced plans to replace Scunthorpe's blast furnaces with an electric arc furnace but no shutdown date has been confirmed.
Labour industry minister Sarah Jones assured that the government intends to invest £2.5bn to rejuvenate the steel industry, along with another £500m for Tata Steel, aiming for a sustainable future.
Jones criticized the previous administration's lack of a cohesive strategy, stating, "This government is determined to change that. Decarbonisation must not mean deindustrialisation."
