Delaware State Sen. Sarah McBride will make history as the first openly transgender person to serve in the U.S. Congress, succeeding Lisa Blunt Rochester.
During her time in state politics, McBride observed, 'It's much harder to hate up close... I've seen the power of interpersonal relationships transform minds and hearts in Delaware.'
McBride remarked on her history-making bid, stating, 'I hope ultimately people will think of the policies I've achieved before they think of my identity.'
