Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty sues Trump administration over canceled contract
Briefly

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) has filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration to block the termination of its federal funding. The lawsuit maintains that the U.S. Agency for Global Media is violating constitutional and federal laws by withholding congressionally allocated funds. RFE/RL, which operates in 23 countries, including those with limited press freedom, claims its mission is vital to countering adversarial propaganda. The network's president emphasized the importance of its role in delivering complex news to millions, amidst a backdrop of political challenges and funding uncertainty.
This is not the time to cede terrain to the propaganda and censorship of America's adversaries, said Stephen Capus, the president and chief executive of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
The network presents news and information to 47 million people each week in 27 languages across 23 countries, including Afghanistan, Hungary, Iran, Pakistan, Russia, and Ukraine.
They have no other option, says former USAGM general counsel David Kligerman, about the necessity of the lawsuit for the network.
The lawsuit argues that the USAGM has violated the Constitution and federal laws by withholding money Congress expressly allocated for the broadcaster.
