Under President Trump's administration, the Pentagon has begun erasing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) materials from military resources. Notably, this includes the removal of at least ten web pages dedicated to the Navajo code talkers, who played a vital role in WWII. Pentagon officials declared DEI initiatives effectively over, with content now being removed across all platforms. Historically crucial, the code talkers used their language to transmit secure messages during battles. This shift raises concerns about historical omissions and the recognition of diverse contributions to the military.
As [defence] secretary [Pete] Hegseth has said, DEI is dead at the defence department. We are pleased by the rapid compliance across the department with the directive removing DEI content from all platforms.
The unique achievements of the Navajo code talkers constitute a proud chapter in the history of the United States Marine Corps. Their patriotism, resourcefulness and courage have earned them the gratitude of all Americans.
