Elon Musk's cost-cutting team, known as Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has accessed the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)'s internal systems and social media accounts, effectively locking out staff. Musk, who has been vocal about wanting to dismantle the agency, has posted negative comments online about the CFPB, raising alarms among workers regarding potential staffing changes. The CFPB union views this as an attack on union rights. With a new acting director appointed, the agency's operations have been halted pending approval. Concerns mount about Musk's broader intentions to diminish regulatory functions.
"Delete CFPB," Musk wrote on his site X. On Friday, he added: "CFPB RIP," stirring concerns about his intentions towards the agency's operations."
The union representing CFPB workers stated that Musk's actions demonstrated a "clear attempt to attack union workers and defang the only agency that checks the greed of payment providers."
