MLB's newest trophy is a guitar. Obviously, Eddie Vedder had to give it a test drive
"He gave it a good run through,"
"He always likes to feel like he puts a little energy, you know, spiritual energy, into an instrument. Not just hand off something that's brand-new, never-touched kind of thing. So yeah, jammed on it for about an hour. Had a good time."
"The Vedder Cup Established 2025 by Major League Baseball."
"We can't wait to see this rivalry series grow and look forward to battling the Mariners for the Vedder Cup"
The Vedder Cup is a custom Fender Telecaster used as a trophy between the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres and was played by Eddie Vedder for about an hour. The instrument features a hand-drawn cresting wave, an arrow and mod symbol referencing Vedder’s tribute to the Who, and back markings including Padres and Mariners logos with the inscription "The Vedder Cup Established 2025 by Major League Baseball." The guitar also displays the EB Research Partnership logo, a nonprofit co-founded by Vedder and his wife Jill that funds research into epidermolysis bullosa. The cup is intended to bring meaningful awareness to the rare disorder and ties into Vedder’s connections to both cities.
