Mississippi executes the longest-serving man on the state's death row for 1976 killing
Briefly

Richard Gerald Jordan, a 79-year-old Vietnam veteran on Mississippi's death row, was executed for kidnapping and murdering Edwina Marter in a ransom scheme in 1976. Despite suffering from PTSD and having multiple appeals denied, he was executed via lethal injection on Wednesday. In his final moments, he thanked the prison staff and expressed regret to the victim's family. The execution, attended by his family and legal team, was emotionally charged, with Marter's family expressing that Jordan's actions had irrevocably changed their lives. This was Mississippi's third execution in ten years.
First I would like to thank everyone for a humane way of doing this. I want to apologize to the victim's family. I will see you on the other side, all of you.
Nothing can ever change what Jordan took from us 49 years ago. We never had an option; Jordan tried desperately to change his ruling so he can simply die in prison.
