Man arrested for allegedly fatally shooting 13-year-oldboy at California gas station
"Authorities on Thursday, Aug. 28, identified the man suspected of fatally shooting a 13-year-old Costa Mesa boy in front of his mother at a Pico Rivera gas station and asked for the public's help in finding the gunman. Several hours later, sheriff's deputies arrested the man. The victim, Saith Mendez, didn't engage with the suspect, 20-year-old Andres Adan Chavez, before the Aug. 23 shooting at the 76 gas station, according to Sheriff Robert Luna"
"Hours later, around 5:50 p.m., Chavez was stopped in the 9500 block of Whittier Boulevard, between Passons Boulevard and the San Gabriel River by sheriff's deputies and arrested, according to the sheriff's department. Chavez was taken into custody without incident and booked at the Pico Rivera Sheriff's Station on suspicion of murder. He is being held on $ 2 million bail, court records show. The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned at the Downey Courthouse on Tuesday."
Saith Toledo Mendez, 13, of Costa Mesa was shot and killed at a 76 gas station in Pico Rivera on Aug. 23 while his mother was working. Authorities identified the suspect as 20-year-old Andres Adan Chavez and sought public assistance locating him. Chavez was stopped on Whittier Boulevard and taken into custody without incident, then booked at the Pico Rivera Sheriff's Station on suspicion of murder. He is being held on $2 million bail and is scheduled for arraignment at the Downey Courthouse. Sheriff Robert Luna said investigators believe Chavez has a prior violent assault conviction and urged tips.
