Lake effect snow is expected to continue pummeling parts of the Northeast and Midwest

"Now that we are in winter, we're going to get periods of north and westerly winds and there will likely be a threat of additional lake effect snow across the Great Lakes as we go into winter months," Oravec said.

"Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening," the NWS warned, adding that residents should take precautions.
