When Joy Diaz was growing up, her parents devoted themselves to humanitarian work. The family lived in Mexico City, and although they were not wealthy, they found ways to help people living in extreme poverty.
One day, a man named Jack Bloxham arrived at Diaz's house and handed her mother a paper bag filled with money, expressing his long-time wish to buy them a house. This act of kindness allowed Diaz's family to move into a middle-class neighborhood and afford college tuition, shaping the future for generations to come.
Diaz emphasized that Bloxham's generosity went beyond their immediate situation, stating, 'It changed the trajectory of generations. Because today my children live in a middle-class neighborhood, [and] because I am college educated I am able to have a better job than I could have had before.'
Diaz expressed her gratitude towards Bloxham, stating, 'I am forever grateful, Jack. Thank you.'
