Jordan Whatley, a Stockton resident, received a tattoo of his mother's name, which became evidence in his manslaughter conviction. In a chaotic shootout with masked burglars in San Leandro, Whatley was linked to the crime through the tattoo. He was sentenced to 15 years in state prison in April 2023. The shootout led to the death of Victor Domingo and injuries to a security guard. Among the five suspects charged, only Whatley and Demoni Simmons received sentences, with charges against the others dismissed.
Evidence against some of the five suspects was scant, but police matched the hand tattoo of a gunman that read Tyietha to Whatley.
Whatley was sentenced to 15 years in state prison last April after pleading no contest to manslaughter.
The shootout claimed the life of Victor Domingo and left a security guard and a suspected burglar suffering gunshot wounds.
Five suspects were originally charged, but only Whatley and Simmons received sentences, with three walking away free as charges were dismissed against them.
