Fire at Baltimore Lumberyard Closes Highway and Schools
Briefly

Firefighters faced multiple challenges responding to a significant fire at a city-run lumberyard, with strong winds helping to spread the flames and complicate their efforts. Over 100 firefighters worked tirelessly throughout the night to gain control, although Fire Chief James Wallace stated that it wasn’t fully under control by late evening—indicating they would continue their efforts through the night and possibly into the following day.
Despite the ferocity of the fire, there were no reported injuries. Mayor Brandon Scott reassured citizens that there was no immediate need for evacuations, though classes were canceled at two nearby schools as a precaution. The schools, Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and Western High School, are located about a mile away from Camp Small, where the fire originated.
