Several students at an elementary school in Ashland were stung by bees as they got off the bus on the first day of school. More than 40 students at David Mindess School were assessed for potential allergic reactions or other medical concerns. The incident was caused by a disturbed underground bees' nest located near the end of the bus loop. Numerous students and staff were stung and many bees traveled into the school building. Those who were stung were treated and families were notified. The school, facilities department, and the Ashland Board of Health removed the nest, held recess indoors, and reported no hospitalizations. Firefighters and paramedics provided a rapid response and residents were cautioned about stinging insects.
