Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran man wrongfully deported to El Salvador, was recently charged with human trafficking by the Trump administration. His deportation was marked by claims of gang involvement and a lack of due process. Following public outcry and legal challenges, Garcia was allowed back into the U.S., yet federal charges were filed against him under controversial circumstances. Protests erupted outside a court in Maryland, demanding justice and highlighting the ongoing issues of immigration policy and human rights abuses.
This was a kidnapping, and it’s exactly how so many of our clients who get deported experience such trauma without due process - it’s horrendous.
This case highlights the troubling trend of using fear and misinformation to justify extreme measures against immigrant communities, reflecting broader systemic issues.
