Despite Quick Spread, Laguna Fire Is Largely Under Control

The Laguna fire ignited Thursday morning in Ventura County, quickly growing to around 50 acres and prompting the temporary evacuation of the Cal State Channel Islands campus. Approximately 200 firefighters engaged in both aerial and ground firefighting efforts, battling strong winds of 20-30 mph, with gusts reaching 45 mph. Fortunately, due to pre-positioned resources and effective response, crews managed to halt the blaze’s progress by early afternoon, resulting in the downgradation of evacuation orders. The university reopened its campus after canceling classes for the remainder of the day.
