
"Around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Hingham police received a report that a child was alone in a car and screaming for their mother outside the Whole Foods at 94 Derby St. The couple who called 911 had parked next to the vehicle and heard the child, who was in a car seat in the back seat, police said. "The windows were all closed, the engine was off, and the sun roof was open," police said."
""Seeing the child in distress, the couple climbed into the sun roof, unlocked the car, and took the child out while Officers were responding." Upon arriving at the scene, officers put the child, who "felt hot and [was] profusely sweating," in the front seat of an air conditioned cruiser until paramedics arrived. The child was later transported to South Shore Hospital by ambulance."
A 44-year-old Brockton mother left her 22-month-old child alone in a car at the Whole Foods parking lot on 94 Derby St. Around 2:30 p.m., a nearby couple heard the child screaming and found the child in a rear car seat with windows closed, engine off, and sun roof open. The couple climbed through the sun roof, unlocked the car, and removed the child before officers arrived. Officers found the child hot and profusely sweating and placed the child in an air‑conditioned cruiser until paramedics transported the child to South Shore Hospital. The mother had last checked the car about 20 minutes earlier; outside temperature was 73 degrees. The mother had not been formally charged as of Wednesday and her name was not released.
