Arndt was an 18-year-old track and field star who was killed on December 14, 1984, while parked with his date in Burney, California. The assailant, described as a slim white male in his 30s, shot Arndt through the car window and sexually assaulted the unnamed woman. Although a reward was offered for information, the case went cold until Schmidt’s recent arrest.
