Government analysts report that the clean-energy industry is set for record growth this year, largely propelled by the construction of solar and battery plants. Renewables are expected to contribute to 93% of new power capacity in 2025, driven by a surge in electricity demand. Despite policy challenges posed by the Trump administration, including restrictions on funding and project permits, industry leaders emphasize the necessity of renewable energy and batteries in addressing the impending electricity demand from sectors like data centers and advanced manufacturing.
"There is no doubt that the increased demand for electricity over the next decade, coming from data centers and advanced manufacturing, will continue to require vast amounts of renewable energy and batteries," said Andres Gluski, chief executive of The AES Corporation.
Despite the Trump administration's attempts to restrict funding and permits for renewables, the clean-energy sector is projected to achieve record growth this year.
The U.S. electricity demand is witnessing a surge unseen in decades, necessitating a diversified energy approach that includes renewables, nuclear, geothermal, and natural gas.
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) projects that by 2025, big solar and battery plants will account for 81% of new power generation added to America's electric grids.
