"On January 19th, as I understand it, we shut down," TikTok lawyer Noel Francisco told justices during oral arguments on Friday.
"I think the biggest obvious result of this law going into effect is that it's going to require more technical savvy to access TikTok," Ruane told NPR.
TikTok officials say it is possible that on Jan. 19, when U.S. users try to open the app, a prompt will show up indicating the service is no longer available in the country.
The Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act (PAFACA) grants the government the authority to ban foreign-owned apps that it deems a threat.
