The Thai government has requested the return of four ancient bronze Buddhist statues looted about 60 years ago. These artifacts, stolen from a temple in Thailand, were sold globally by a London art dealer and reached the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. In the exhibition 'Moving Objects,' the museum addresses the complexities of cultural heritage and ownership, showcasing a growing trend of transparency in museums about their collections' controversial histories. Natasha Reichle hopes the return fosters collaboration and understanding with Southeast Asian countries.
"We did some initial research on these; it was not too difficult to determine that they were looted." - Natasha Reichle
