President Biden and former President Donald J. Trump will have the first general election presidential debate without an in-person audience in more than six decades, reminiscent of the Kennedy-Nixon debates in 1960.
Mr. Biden's team requested no in-person audience to prevent any disruptions, contrasting with Mr. Trump's preference for audience reactions during debates.
