Republican senator introduces bill to abolish US Department of Education
Briefly

The federal Department of Education has never educated a single student, and it's long past time to end this bureaucratic department that causes more harm than good.
This legislation is a roadmap to eliminating the federal Department of Education by practically rehoming these federal programs in the departments where they belong.
Major responsibilities of the Department of Education would be rerouted to other offices: federal student loans to treasury, disabilities act to health services, and the Fulbright program to state.
Rounds believes he can pass the bill with 50 votes through reconciliation, a congressional loophole that allows legislation enactment on taxes and spending with only a majority.
