"This will be my last term as Republican leader of the Senate," McConnell shared in his speech. "I'm not going anywhere anytime soon."
McConnell's legacy will likely not secure him anything resembling a "profiles in courage" acknowledgment - indeed, at many times in his career, the Bluegrass State lawmaker was open about his desire to "win" politically rather than work toward compromise with his colleagues of differing views.
