Across the country, Black women led an outpouring of Democratic elation when Kamala Harris took over the top of the presidential ticket. But underneath their hope was a persistent worry about whether America was ready to elect a Black woman.
Many Democrats attributed Kamala Harris's loss to a brutal political environment and anger about President Biden's leadership, rather than the racism and sexism she faced throughout her campaign.
This isn't a loss for Black women, it's a loss for the country, said Waikinya Clanton. America has revealed to us her true self, and we have to decide what we do with her from here.
