My mother liked the idea of not having to keep track of time, liked the indexing of hemming every four years, but... the Olympics she would not have wanted to miss.
My mother was a registered independent, and she made a point of never telling anyone how she planned to vote, or how she voted, and that most definitely included my father.
Still, my mother was not... a battered woman, too timid to speak her mind, afraid of my father. Abortion, not party loyalty, divided my parents.
