Watchdog says cladding removal deadline may be missed
Briefly

According to the National Audit Office, the UK government may not meet its cladding removal deadline of 2035 unless there is a marked acceleration in efforts to identify and remediate buildings with dangerous cladding.
The recent NAO report highlights that approximately 60% of buildings with hazardous cladding have yet to be identified. Given the current pace of progress, the government is falling behind its own remediation timeline.
Although the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has seen increased remediation activity, with 4,771 buildings under the remedial works scheme, many more remain unrecognized and unassessed.
Addressing the danger from cladding is critical, yet with a backlog of over 7,200 buildings not identified, the National Audit Office warns that the government must take swift action to meet its targets.
