Union members turning to Farage because of cost of living crisis, Starmer warned

Trade union members are increasingly turning to Nigel Farage amid perceptions that Keir Starmer is overly focused on polls rather than the cost of living. Paul Nowak, general secretary of the TUC, warned the prime minister and cabinet to prioritise cost-of-living measures in 2026. A Survation poll commissioned by the TUC and 38 Degrees found 21% are skipping meals every day or most days, 36% are cutting back on heating daily or most days, and 79% say their financial circumstances are stagnant or worsening. The situation demands urgent government attention and concrete relief measures.
