The UK government has been failing to meet its commitments to fund nature protection in the developing world, averaging £450m a year, less than half the pledged £3bn.
Clement Metivier stated, "Finance will be centre stage at the upcoming nature and climate Cops. The UK government cannot go empty-handed to those negotiations…" emphasizing the urgency of meeting financial commitments.
According to Carbon Brief, over £800m needs to be spent each year in the next two years to meet the nature project targets set by the previous government.
Ed Miliband reaffirmed the UK government's pledge of £11.6bn for climate finance for developing countries, urging compliance to restore trust with those affected by climate and nature crises.
