We thought acquiring British citizenship could be a step on the road to Alaa's freedom, but it feels now like it has led to false hope, wasted energy and maybe even made things worse, said his sister, Sanaa Seif.
Sunak wrote to Seif on 5 November last year, telling her that the government is deeply committed to doing everything we can to resolve Alaa's case as soon as possible, and that the case remains a priority for the British government.
