Top judge deeply troubled' by PMQs exchange on Gaza asylum case
Briefly

Lady Sue Carr, the Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, expressed deep concern over a recent discussion at Prime Minister's Questions involving a Palestinian family's asylum claim. This family, whose home in Gaza was destroyed, had applied for UK entry through a scheme for Ukrainian refugees. Carr condemned both PM Rishi Sunak's and Keir Starmer's remarks as unacceptable and highlighted the need for the government to respect judicial independence. She asserted that disagreements with judicial findings should be addressed through the appropriate appellate processes, not in public forums.
I think it started from a question from the opposition suggesting that the decision in a certain case was wrong, and obviously the prime minister's response to that.
Both question and the answer were unacceptable. It is for the government visibly to respect and protect the independence of the judiciary.
Where parties, including the government, disagree with their findings, they should do so through the appellate process.
Lady Carr criticized the Prime Minister's response as unacceptable, emphasizing the importance of upholding judicial independence.
