More than one million voters have signed a petition calling for an immediate general election, and the petition will be debated in Parliament on Monday. A Politico poll of polls shows Sir Keir Starmer and the Greens at 16%, the Conservatives at 18% and Reform UK at 29%. Alex Burghart said constituents view the Labour Government as the most unpopular in history, accusing it of broken promises and repeated U-turns and asserting only Kemi Badenoch and the Conservatives can deliver change. Lamont cited mistakes including a tax on jobs, the Family Farm Tax, a U-turn on Winter Fuel Payments and Digital ID. The Cabinet Office said the Prime Minister can request dissolution from the Sovereign within Parliament's five-year term and defended the government's July 2024 mandate, saying it is delivering investment, reform, jobs, NHS recovery and secure borders.
