Ofcom imposed a fine of £100,000 on GB News after determining that a program featuring former PM Rishi Sunak violated impartiality rules by providing him an uncontested platform to promote his government's policies.
The media watchdog noted that the event aired on 12 February 2024, just before the UK General Election, further aggravating the breach due to the timing and context of the program.
Despite previous warnings, Ofcom found GB News had repeatedly breached its broadcasting code, leading to the substantial fine as a measure to uphold impartiality standards in news programming.
