Minister warns Putin over Russian spy ship in UK waters
Briefly

The Royal Navy is closely tracking the Russian spy ship Yantar, as revealed by Defence Secretary John Healey. This vessel, considered highly suspect for gathering intelligence and mapping vital underwater structures, has entered British waters, indicating an escalation in Russian activities. Healey emphasized the UK's awareness of these provocations and reassured that robust actions are being taken. Two Royal Navy ships are monitoring Yantar's movements, and the incident highlights rising tensions in response to Russia's actions following its invasion of Ukraine. Yantar has previously loitered over critical infrastructure, raising security concerns.
I also wanted President Putin to hear this message: we see you, we know what you're doing and we will not shy away from robust action to protect this country.
The vessel, Yantar, was used for gathering intelligence and mapping the UK's critical underwater infrastructure.
Yantar was detected loitering over UK critical undersea infrastructure in November.
For the last two days the Royal Navy has deployed HMS Somerset and HMS Tyne to monitor the vessel every minute through our waters.
