The High Court ruled that the Department for Work and Pensions had misled the public by framing incapacity benefits reforms as support for disabled people, when cost savings were the primary aim.
Ellen Clifford, a disability activist, expressed that the cuts reflected a prioritization of fiscal savings over the lives of disabled individuals, urging the government to focus on their safety and well-being instead.
Mr Justice Calver emphasized that the consultation for the reforms was misleading, as it didn't fully disclose the significant benefit cuts claimants would face and misled the public about its true intent.
